NetBoox

"Helping Parents Choose the Right Book"

Final Project

Pysch 342: Child Development and New Technologies

Our project began with two main goals. Primarily, we wanted to create an application that simultaneously

engages and educates a child in early literacy development. Second, we wanted an application that was transparent

for parents. The idea here is that they could actually see and learn what their child is doing as well as better

understand the levels of literacy development their child may be at. In addition, by choosing content that was level

appropriate and had specific engaging and supportive features, we could maximize a child’s learning experience.

What we arrived at, was "NetBoox". Netboox is an innovative iPad literacy tool that aims at bridging authentic literature, emerging technology and parent involvement. The tool contains an eReader component, a built-in assessment through games and activities, and a web-based platform for parents/guardians to purchase recommended books. Children who use the tool will be exposed to appropriate, calibrated, and engaging literature. Parents and guardians who use the tool will make informed decisions about the literature they expose their children to.
